the early years
Ever since I was little, I had always been interested in anything that allowed me to express my thoughts and ideas. At first it started out with writing. I was very passionate about telling stories and being able to allow my creativity to flourish by putting pen to paper. I would fill spiral notebooks full of tales of fantasy, and would be ecstatic every time I got to go to my Language Arts and Art classes. When I wasn’t busy doing schoolwork or homework, I liked to spend my free time drawing pictures and making comics, but as I got older, I began to expand my horizons and explore other artistic endeavors.

Whether it was acting, recording silly skits, or painting, I can always recall the countless hours I would spend sketching clothing designs and making lyrics videos on YouTube. Creativity is a passion of mine that I hoped to make my life’s work. I knew I had wanted to pursue a career in the arts, but with so many avenues for opportunity, I was at a loss when deciding on a specific artistic trait to study.

Every college tour I had been on, I had written “theatre” on the line where your intended major was. But to be honest, I was unsure if I wanted my sole focus to be on acting. Originally, the idea of pursuing theatre seemed like a no-brainer, given that I had been acting in school plays for 6 years, but it was actually my dad who inspired me to peruse digital media. He had been blown away by the wacky skits my friends and I made, as well as some of my lyrics videos. When he looked down at the form I’d filled out, he asked me why didn’t I put digital art instead? Suddenly, it all clicked. I could see myself having a promising future, reassured by the fact that I knew I’d never get bored with what I’d do. I stopped for a moment, looked at him, and I erased “theatre” from the line.

#uconn bound
I would eventually find myself studying Digital Media and Design at the University of Connecticut. I had declared a concentration in Business Strategies - oh, and did I mention I was a studio art minor as well? I am so fortunate that my major has allowed me to explore so many different areas in which I could create content; from 2d and 3d animation, graphic design, live-action video, and more. I was able to get my feet wet and become involved in projects that further pushed my creative juices. A lover of all things technical and visual, I had immersed myself into world of photography, filmography, and design. I knew I had made the right decision in pursuing my major.

what now?
In the spring of 2018 I graduated from UConn, now able to begin the rest of my life.
What will I do next? I don’t know….

What I do know is that I love to create, and I love to tell stories. I want to be able to capture the world and display it in all its beauty; to show people that there is inspiration around every corner. My hope is that one day I am able to inspire people through my work and motivate others to unleash their own creativity.
To be continued…
